A common factor in every human endeavour is location. Where you are matters as
much as where you've been and where you are going. What are the important
destinations in your environment? Where is your office, your church, your
children's school and the closest petrol station? Why is location so important
in business? Location is critical for the logistics of supply chain management.
Where are the competitors? Where are the fixed assets? Where are our mobile
assets? What location-based services are we able to provide for customers to
help them streamline their businesses?
In essence, spatial intelligence provides the basis for informed and validated
business decisions and provides executives with the ability to be proactive in
constantly changing market conditions.
Founded in 1994, Spatial Technologies (Pty) Ltd is, above all else, a
solutions company, focussed on the delivery of location-based business
intelligence value to our clients. Our technology is aimed at harnessing the
power of location in order to deliver competitive advantage to an organization
in the shortest time at the most effective cost possible. Our services are
central to this theme, and our products are the tools we use to achieve our
value delivery.
Partners Alan Ellis (CEO) and Jeff Connacher (CTO) founded the company in
response to a market requirement for truly spatial business solutions.
Combining their expertise, they established Spatial Technologies as a
specialist computer software solutions and services company. In 2000, a third
partner, Andre Lombard (COO), joined the company and has been instrumental in
spearheading growth into selected vertical markets and developing
enterprise-wide solutions. In 2004, Dr Ruben Richards joined the Board as a
non-executive director.
Spatial Technologies is the premier partner for MapInfo Corporation in
Southern Africa. The company has successfully deployed MapInfo Technology
across a broad spectrum of commerce industry.
As Information technology trends shifted from desktop to client/server and
later to Internet/Intranet architecture and now to the mobile environment, so
did spatial applications. This shift enabled these spatial applications to move
from niche markets to a far broader platform of business intelligence and
customer relationship management. In line with this, Spatial Technologies
grew its expertise to address applications across the enterprise. Particular
attention is given to the integration of spatial applications into Web-based
and mobile information systems taking cognisance of the divergent platforms
within the customer environment. To this end, and following the lead of
MapInfo, Spatial Technologies personnel have been skilled in XML, Java,
Web, mobile and related technologies.
With the emergence of limited connectivity devices such as PDA's and Java phone
technology, the move to mobile enablement has created a new dimension in the
spatial arena due to the location-based aspects of the mobile Internet. This
extensive use of Java technology and the development of MI2GO on Service
Oriented Architecture (SOA) principles has justified Spatial Technologies'
investment in this area and has established the company's readiness to deploy
mobile solutions.
